What is Ayushman Bharat Yojana

Ayushman Bharat is the biggest health insurance scheme introduced by government of India which will be effective from 25th September 2018. This scheme aims to provide medical care to the poor families of India who can’t afford the sky high medical expenses today.

Since majority of population in India can’t bear the costly medication of reputed hospitals because of which they struggle a lot in case of serious and deadly diseases, so this scheme can be very useful for those poor families.


Objectives Of Ayushman Bharat:

  1. Focus on Wellness of poor families of country.
  2. provide free medical facilities to poor families.
  3. Establish more medical Centres in every area of the country so that all can get medical attentions in their nearby area.


Key Features of Ayushman Bharat Scheme

  1. Under this scheme, an insurance cover of 5 lakh rupees per family per year will be provided.
  2. This scheme will cover around 10 crore poor families in India.
  3. No premium will be charged from public. It will be taken care by government.
  4. Under this scheme, a large number of hospitals will be listed in each area from where the medical treatment can be availed.
  5. Cashless Treatment will be provided to the people

Initiatives Taken Under Ayushman Bharat Scheme

There are basically two initiatives taken by government under this scheme:

  1. Establishment of Hospitals and Health Centres: For this scheme, government is planning to set up multiple Hospitals and Medical Centres around the country. These health centres will provide comprehensive medication and free essential drugs to the entitled families.
  2. National Health Insurance: This health insurance will provide coverage of 5 lakh per family per annum to the people who will be entitled to this scheme. Also the estimated families getting the benefit of this scheme is around 10 crore. It is said to be one of the biggest health care scheme globally.


Entitlement and eligibility

There is no enrolment process as it is and entitled based scheme.

The families entitled for this scheme will be purely decided on the poverty and deprivation of the family based on some government database. The beneficiaries will be mostly from rural areas belonging from poor and lower middle class people.

For Urban areas there are some occupational categories defined and people enagaged in those jobs are entitled for this scheme.

Hospital Eligibility


For Medical Services under Ayushman Bharat, people can go to any public hospitals or empaneled private hospitals. Empanelment of hospitals will be conducted by the government through some online process and people will get the list of all the hospitals empaneled to this scheme in an area through some government websites.
